Hey look, a Valentine’s Day post!

I don’t really have any advice, or gift guides, or “five ways to throw yourself a great Galentine’s Day party” tips. Not that there is anything wrong with any of those. I love seeing what other people do for Valentine’s Day, and even though I am happily married, I would be thrilled to throw Galentine’s Day party for my lady friends. Most of them also have dudes though, so that might be intruding on their day.

For this Valentine’s Day, I decided I just wanted to share a little peek in to my life, and my relationship outside of blogging.

I recently went to a casting for a local company. I don’t really know what it was for exactly (I didn’t get it), which is fine, because its not important. What is important is that they took a couple of us in to a room, put us in front of cameras, and asked us to tell them “about what our perfect day looks like”. I told them that it would probably involve sleeping in (lordy do I love my sleep), then going on a hike or doing something outside with my family or friends (or both!). We would probably snap some good photos, explore something new, and wrap the day up with some delicious food and beers.

Fast forward to last weekend. Saturday was supposed to be the only nice day for a while, and in Seattle you don’t waste those. My sister, brother-in-law, and Nick (husband) decided to talk a ferry over to Whidbey Island, and explore Fort Casey State Park. We wandered the beach, explored driftwood forts, and skipped rocks. Kiersten and I took photos, while the boys got competitive with the rock skipping. I even lucked out and was able to get Nick to take some pictures with me! He usually prefers to be behind the camera, so it really meant a lot to me to be able to get some nice photos together.

We wrapped up the day with some delicious beers, and seafood at Toby’s Tavern in Coupeville. They even had some beers that we hadn’t tried before, and a delicious pound of mussels that we all shared. After it got dark, we headed back to my place to watch a horror movie (its kind of me and Kiersten’s things, we’re dark), hung out and looked through the pictures from the day.

Anyways, while this doesn’t have a whole lot to do with Valentine’s Day, it does have everything to do with a perfect day. We don’t always need specific days to share with the people we love. Sometimes all it takes is a nice day, and a spontaneous trip.

So whether you are single, have someone, or are in an “its complicated”, I hope you are able to surround yourself with the people you love today (and always for that matter). Today is a hallmark holiday, but its also about love and love doesn’t always have to be romantic.
